Our work in human rights and public law means we have leading experts in challenges against public bodies and in equality law. The diversity of our team means we are able to advise on cases from a range of perspectives, often drawing on experts in several areas.

Specialist members
Viscaria’s group includes experts who have appeared in many of the leading cases on healthcare-related public law, equality and human rights issues. We bring unparalleled expertise in equality issues and encompass immigration, prison and mental health-related claims. One of our members also works as an NHS GP and is mainly instructed in health-related public law challenges brought by people who are marginalised or vulnerable or by campaigners. We have acted in a number of high-profile clinical negligence and product liability cases. Several members have a particular interest in women’s rights in childbirth. Our criminal law team are able to advise on regulatory and criminal matters involving the pharmaceutical industry.
Mental health and mental capacity
Many of the members of this team have experience advising and representing parties on issues relating specifically to the rights of those with mental health issues and the provision of specific healthcare for these issues. This area concerns issues of consent and capacity to make decisions and detention of individuals under the Mental Health Act 1983. Our members have experience in these areas, particularly concerning their intersection with prisoners’ rights and community care law.
